Spring Softball Traditionally our largest recreation league, most girls begin by playing spring softball which runs from late April to mid-June. The U8 Instructional level is operated as a clinic that starts with teeball and moves to coach pitch with half practice of needed skills and half games. Umpired games begin at the U10 level. In order to promote and grow the sport of girls fastpitch softball at a recreational and competitively balanced level, in 2016, Billerica and Tewksbury Girls’ Softball Leagues began to play inter-league games at the 10U, 12U and 14U Divisions. The collaboration was a success and in 2017, with assistance from the Greater Lowell Umpires Association, teams from other towns were added and The Merrimack Valley Girls Softball League was established. The majority of games are played at home in Billerica but each season girls might travel to another geographically touching town (Tewksbury, Wilmington, etc) for 3 to 4 games.

What league is right for my daughter? For Spring Softball we place girls into leagues by school grade regardless of age to allow them to play with their friends. In summer and fall, girls are placed by their softball age: ASA rules are that the player's age on December 31 indicates what league they are eligible for for the following year.
